Best beauty tips

1. Don't Forget Your Sunscreen!

Even your doctors will tell you to lather on the sunscreen! UV light from the sun is known to cause skin ageing and wrinkling (gasp!), and may even lead to skin cancer. Limit your exposure from outdoor UV rays by wearing a large-brim hat to protect your eyes, head, and neck. Clothes with a shine can also deflect sun rays.

Many makeup products, primarily foundation, come with SPF, but that shouldn’t be an excuse to put on your sunscreen first before applying your full face of make-up. These products alone won’t be enough, as you will not be applying enough for its benefit as a sunscreen.

2. Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

An important beauty tip is to exfoliate regularly. Your metabolism slows down as you age, leaving dead skins piling up on your skin, making it look dull. Exfoliation will remove these dead skin c, unclog your pores, remove discoloration and perhaps even lighten any wrinkles on your face!

Chemical exfoliants can be gentle enough for everyday use. It is also not as harsh as physical exfoliation. They come in 2 forms: AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) such as glycolic acid and BHAs (beta hydroxy acids) such as salicylic acid. Depending on your skin, you may want to experiment with different products to find the ideal one for you. Remember to put on sunscreen as these acids may cause sensitivity towards UV rays.

Other options of exfoliation include retinoids, laser treatments, and chemical peels. Retinoids are much more powerful but may come with difficult side effects too, so it’s best to consult your doctor about using them.

3. Clean Your Tools

Make-up application is so much easier with beauty brushes/blenders, and you’ll get the perfect finish too. However we may also be lazy to clean them up, and day after day we will be piling old makeup, bacteria, and oil onto the brushes. This may eventually lead to major breakouts when used on the face.

There are plenty of detergents and tools on the market dedicated to cleaning your sponges and brushes.

You can experiment with those, or simply use this tested-and-true DIY method: dish soap and water! Yep, it’s that simple. If you’re afraid of your brushes turning too dry, mix in some olive oil into the dish soap mixture.

4. DIY Your Own Facial Masks

We all know food is medicine and healing for our bodies. Do you know we can use it on our skin too? This is definitely one of the best beauty tips that you should bookmark. Some of the masks we love are:

4.1. Egg white peel-off masks

Eggwhites are full of protein that will nourish and heal your skin. It can also shrink pores and acts as a deep cleaning agent to prevent blackheads and whiteheads. Add a teaspoon of lemon juice for better cleansing and to even out your skin tone.

4.2. Banana facial masks

Simply mash up a banana and apply on your face for some good ole’moisturization! If you fancy a bit of anti-acne properties, mix in 1/4 cup of plain yogurt and 2 tablespoons of honey with 1 banana.

4.3. Brown sugar scrub/masks

The sugar granules slough off any dead skin cells and are great for hydration. Mix in equal portions of virgin coconut oil to moisturize your skin.

5. Spritz on Some Perfume

A great scent makes people turn heads and remember you. We will recommend you to invest in a good perfume. Cheap perfumes are not entirely bad, but the levels of fragrance may be less complex and less memorable.

The French have the best tips on how to spray perfume. Spritz on your pulse points, which have the highest blood flow, which emanates heat and thus the scent of the perfume on your skin. These can be behind your ears, inside your wrists and elbows, behind the knees, and even on the ankle! Spray in your hair as well if you like. Increase the shelf life of your perfumes by keeping them in cool and dark places to prevent them from degrading.
