Best universities in the US

1. Stanford University

The latest ranking by the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking shows that Stanford University is the best university in the US. They have the most selective undergraduate programs. In 2016, out of 44,000 applicants, only 4.6% were admitted. Talk about competition!   “Work hard, play hard”. Stanford University has over 650 clubs and societies for you to choose from, including a lively student broadcasting program and Greek organizations. Its brilliant athletics program is also second to none in the US. Over the years their students and alumni have won many national championships and even plucked 139 gold in the Olympics.

2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology

MIT is renowned for its education in physical sciences and engineering, and as the birthplace for cutting edge technology. Many medical and computer science breakthroughs have been made here. Some of its famous alumni include astronaut Buzz Aldrin and former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan.   Elaborate practical jokes, or hacks, are a famous tradition of MIT. Even though not officially endorsed by the university staff, they nonetheless appreciate the humour in it, and even sometimes participate in them.   Those who are keen to spearhead in the scientific field (and itching on creating hacks) should start their application right now into one of their 5 schools.

3. California Institute of Technology

CalTECH may be small, but it is definitely one of the best universities in the US. Admission is very competitive, with an acceptance rate of 7.7% in 2016. All 6 faculties in the university place a strong emphasis on science and technology. With only about 2,000 students, you will have a quality learning experience from some of the best teachers in the world.   Just like MIT, CalTECH students are also famous for their pranks. One of their most famous pranks is covering up certain parts of the letters in the Hollywood sign to read CalTECH. You are in for some fun with their traditions such as Ditch Day and playing of Rise of the Valkyries during finals week.

4. Harvard University

Harvard University requires no introduction. The Ivy League university was founded in 1636, the oldest in the US.  It is one of the most privileged and prestigious university in the world, and very selective too. In 2016 the acceptance rate was 5.2%.   Those who make it through should take advantage of what the institution has to offer. As one of the most well-endowed universities in the world, Harvard is very generous in terms of providing financial aids and fee waiver for eligible students. There are also more than 600 student clubs and societies to join.

5. Princeton University

Another best university in the US is Princeton University. For many years it has occupied the top spot in the country, and sometimes there's a tie between this university and Harvard. It has one of the most beautiful campuses in the US. The lush, green campus is dotted with gothic, Victorian buildings and sculptures. Some of its more famous alumni include Jeff Bezos, Jodi Picoult and Woodrow Wilson.
